FAQ

Questions, answered

The short version of how Earwig looks after your shoots, from the transcript to the timeline.

QAre all my transcripts saved?

Yes. Every session you record is saved to your account, so you can keep tabs on what you have shot and come back to any transcript whenever you need it. You can share them with your team too.

QDoes Earwig Sync automatically update?

Yes. As soon as you hit end record, your session syncs to Earwig Sync on your desktop, so your markers and transcript are already waiting there, ready to view and build into your edit.

QIs my footage uploaded to Earwig?

No. Your footage never leaves your drive โ€” Earwig only ever works with your markers and transcript; the footage stays your own copy on your Mac. Your footage and your sessions are yours alone.

QWhich editors does Earwig Sync build into?

DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro. Drop your card in, and Earwig Sync lays your markers and selects onto the timeline against your footage, so your marked moments are there before you start cutting. For Avid Media Composer, Sync exports marker files (text or XML, colours included) that import through the Markers tool.

QCan I share a session with my team?

Yes. Share a session and your editor can open it in Earwig Sync on their own machine, with the markers, transcript and selects ready to go against their copy of the footage.

QDo I need to match my camera's timecode?

Set your camera to time of day and Earwig lines up with it automatically. If the timecodes ever drift, you can nudge Earwig to your camera on the setup screen before you roll.

QHow does audio get into my phone?

A few ways. Run a USB-C cable from your camera into your phone, or use a RODE adapter to take a clean feed straight off the camera. You don't even need a cable โ€” Earwig can also just listen on your phone's own mic in the room. However you get the audio in, Earwig takes care of the rest โ€” your markers land in the right place in your footage automatically.
