Step-by-step guides for marking, syncing and troubleshooting live in the Help Centre.
No. Earwig syncs by listening — it matches your phone's recording against your footage's own audio. Any camera that records sound works, timecode or not.
DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro get one-press timeline builds from Earwig Sync. Anything else can import the EDL or XML exports.
Three things to check before recording: Smart markers must be on (off means timecode-only marking, by design), Live transcription must be on — both live in the shoot settings behind your initials — and your phone needs an internet connection, because transcription happens live over the network.
Markers carry the exact words being said, not just when you tapped. Once Sync has matched your footage, selects land frame-accurately on those words.
Sync verifies clips by their audio, and refuses to build from footage that wasn't recorded at your session — usually the wrong card or the wrong day's folder. Check you've pointed it at the right offload; it deliberately never guesses.
Your session recording, transcript and markers are stored against your account so Sync can match your footage. Delete any session — or your whole account — at any time, or turn on footage auto-delete to remove recordings automatically after 30 days. Full detail in our privacy policy.
Yes — you're responsible for having consent from everyone you record and for the recording laws where you shoot. Earwig asks you to confirm this the first time you use it.
Earwig Marker is free to use during the open beta, and Earwig Sync is a free Mac download.
Marking a shoot. Open Earwig Marker, start a session and tap a marker button the moment something good happens. Every mark is saved with its timecode, and with the words being spoken when transcription is on.
Building your edit. Install Earwig Sync on your Mac from earwig.io/sync, insert your camera card, and Sync matches your marks to the footage and builds a timeline in DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro.
My marks are not lining up with the footage. Make sure the recording ran in Earwig for the whole take, and check your camera clock is roughly right. Sync aligns to your camera audio automatically when it can; if it falls back to timecode, small offsets can appear. Email us the session and we will look at it.
Where are my recordings? Sessions live in your account and appear in the app under your projects, and in Earwig Sync on your Mac once you sign in.
Managing your subscription. Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID and can be changed or cancelled any time in your iPhone Settings under Subscriptions.
Deleting your account. You can delete your account and all its data from inside the app, in your profile settings. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
